Rubio Monocoat Hardwax Oil
Hardwax Oil is different than the stain and finishes customers in the United States are accustomed to. The hard wax oil penetrates the wood and offers protection from within. These oils are applied with a trowel and then buffed into the floor. Hard wax oil is 100% solids, and much less is needed to cover a floor than traditional flooring finish. Rubio Monocoat hardwax oil has a matte finish and gives the floor a unique look.

Rubio Monocoat Company History
Rubio Monocoat is a pioneer in the hardwax oil field and has created a green lineup of finishing options. Rubio was the first company to introduce an oil with no water or VOCs. The hardwax oil can be applied in a single coat and has excellent, long-lasting protection. Once the line was introduced, Rubio added various colors that are sure to meet everyone’s taste.
The beginning
Rubio began under the Muylle Falcon LTD name and was founded in 1906. Muylle Falcon LTD started as a mastic producer, and by 1966 the company had expanded internationally. Muylle Falcon LTD focused solely on mastic until the 1980’s when they began to develop the product lineup. The company relocated to Ambachtenstraat at Izegem, where the production of specialized products was easier. During this period, the Muylle Facon team developed and produced customized products for the chemical industry. In addition, the company created wood preservative products during this time, focusing on molecular binding technology to create progressive products for wood preservation.
During the second generation at Muylle Facon, Benoit Muylle took over as business manager and shifted the company’s focus to technology, including converting molecular binding technology into wood preservation. A new company was established in 2000 with Dr. Gerorge Barrell with the same emphasis on molecular bonding. The technology continued to improve, and the focus shifted to creating a product with no water, VOCs, an economical price point, easy application, and a single coat that would preserve the wood, making it look and feel good. In addition to their requirements, the preservatives needed to be natural ingredients. The company made this product the center of its focus, and in 2005, it was ready for market. Rubio Monocoat was introduced to the market and was a revolutionary product. The Rubio Monocoat hardwax oil met all the demands Benoit has placed on the product. Monocoat oil was the only oil on the market to meet these green standards.
The focus on new technology continued, and Rubio Monocoat created a 2-component oil that dried faster than the original. In addition, Rubio Monocoat took on its recent name rebranding from Muylle Falcon to Rubio Monocoat. In 2009 Rubio introduced the 0% VOC oil for outdoor wood and expanded with an entire outdoor product lineup. In 2016 Rubio Monocoat had grown to 41 countries with 150 employees. A second site was opened in Belgium in 2016, and in 2017 Rubio Rubio Monocoat relocated to Austin, TX.
Rubio Monocoat has always retained the spirit and drive to be an innovator in the industry. The company plans to continue developing innovative new products and continues to expand the lineup of products and colors available.
