Rubio Monocoat has established itself as a trailblazer in the hardwax oil industry, notably as the first to launch a water-free and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)-free oil. Originating in 1906 as Muylle Falcon LTD, the company initially specialized in mastic production before diversifying into creating specialized chemical industry products. By the 1980s, the team at Muylle Falcon had shifted their focus towards developing advanced wood preservative products using molecular binding technology.

Under Benoit Muylle’s guidance, the company pivoted towards technological innovation and in 2000, rebranded as Rubio Monocoat. This marked a new direction with the aim to develop a wood preservative devoid of water, VOCs, and other detrimental chemicals. Achieving this goal, Rubio Monocoat introduced its signature hardwax oil in 2005, fulfilling Benoit’s vision of a product that was environmentally friendly, easy to use, and durable. Expanding its range, in 2009, the company added an outdoor oil with 0% VOCs to its lineup, continuing its trajectory of innovation and growth.

Rubio Monocoat has since grown into a global entity, operating in 41 countries with a team of 150 employees. Its headquarters are situated in Austin, Texas, and in 2016, the company expanded with a new site in Belgium.
