Rubio Monocoat Hardwax Oil
Hardwax oil is a type of wood finish that is different from the stains and finishes commonly used in the United States. Instead of sitting on top of the wood like traditional finishes, hardwax oil penetrates the wood and offers protection from within. Hardwax oil is applied using a trowel and is then buffed into the wood to create a smooth, even finish.
One of the key benefits of hardwax oil is that it is made up of 100% solids, meaning that it does not contain any volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be harmful to the environment or to your health. This also means that you will need to use less hardwax oil to cover a floor than you would with a traditional finish.
Rubio Monocoat is a well-respected brand of hardwax oil that offers a matte finish and creates a unique look on wood surfaces. If you are interested in using hardwax oil for your wood flooring, countertops, or other furniture, Rubio Monocoat is a great option to consider.

Rubio Monocoat Company History
Rubio Monocoat: A Leader in the Hardwax Oil Industry
The Beginning
Rubio Monocoat is a pioneer in the field of hardwax oil, having been the first company to introduce an oil with no water or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Founded in 1906 as Muylle Falcon LTD, the company initially focused on producing mastic before expanding into the production of specialized products for the chemical industry. In the 1980s, the team at Muylle Falcon began developing wood preservative products that utilized molecular binding technology to create progressive solutions for wood preservation.
Under the leadership of Benoit Muylle, the company’s focus shifted to technology, and in 2000, Muylle Falcon was reestablished as Rubio Monocoat with the goal of creating a wood preservative that was free of water, VOCs, and other harmful chemicals. In 2005, the company introduced the Rubio Monocoat hardwax oil, which met all of Benoit’s requirements for a green, easy-to-use, and long-lasting product. In 2009, Rubio Monocoat expanded its product line to include an outdoor oil with 0% VOCs, and the company has continued to innovate and grow in the years since.
Today, Rubio Monocoat is a global company with a presence in 41 countries and 150 employees. The company’s headquarters are located in Austin, Texas, and in 2016, a second site was opened in Belgium. Rubio Monocoat is committed to developing innovative new products and expanding the range of colors and finishes available to its customers.
