Rustic Floor Supply sells solid prefinished hardwood flooring at our Spokane, Washington location. Solid prefinished hardwood is a type of wood flooring that comes with a pre-applied finish, which means it has already been sanded and treated with stains or other finishes before it is sold to consumers. One benefit of this type of flooring is that it does not require sanding or finishing on site, which can create a lot of dust and disruption in the home. Solid prefinished hardwood is a good choice for those who want a beautiful wood floor without the inconvenience of a lengthy installation process.
If you need a quick and easy flooring solution for your renovation project, consider prefinished hardwood. Prefinished hardwood comes in two types: solid and engineered. Solid prefinished hardwood is made entirely of wood and finishing materials, making it a more durable and long-lasting option. In contrast, engineered prefinished hardwood is made with a combination of materials such as glues and wood substrates. When deciding between solid and engineered prefinished hardwood, consider the level of durability and longevity you need for your flooring.
When choosing solid prefinished hardwood for your flooring, you have a wide range of options to select from. Solid prefinished hardwood comes in various sheens, colors, species, and plank widths, allowing you to find the perfect match for your space. No matter what your style or needs are, you can find a solid prefinished hardwood option that meets your preferences.

Solid Prefinished Hardwood Flooring Species
Our solid prefinished hardwood flooring line includes four species: hickory, maple, red oak, and white oak. Here is more information about each species:
Hickory: Hickory is a domestic hardwood species known for its exceptional hardness and durability. Its affordability and resistance to dents and scratches make it a popular choice for homes with pets and children. It has a high Janka rating, indicating its ability to withstand scratches, and it maintains its appearance well over time. While hickory is resistant to wear and tear, it is prone to movement, so it is advisable to use narrow planks (four inches or less) to prevent excessive movement. In the event that your hickory floor does crack, increasing humidity can help to alleviate the issue.
Maple: Maple is a strong and stable flooring option that is resistant to movement. While it is not as hard as hickory, it is still a durable choice. To prevent movement in maple flooring, it is essential to maintain consistent humidity levels in the home. Maple has a unique grain pattern with both tight and soft grains, which can impact the way that stain adheres to the wood. Overall, maple is a reliable and attractive flooring choice that is suitable for a variety of settings.
Red Oak: Red oak is a widely popular and affordable wood species that is suitable for a range of flooring needs. While it may be lower in price compared to some other options, it still looks great and is able to withstand everyday wear and tear. Red oak has good stability and is less affected by changes in humidity than other species. However, it does have a lower Janka rating and may dent and ding more easily as a result. One of the standout features of red oak is its ability to take stain consistently, allowing for a wide range of coloring options. Overall, red oak is a practical and attractive flooring choice that is well-suited to a variety of settings.
White Oak: White oak is a widely used and well-respected flooring species known for its versatility and beauty. It is able to take stain consistently, resulting in a uniform look that showcases its natural grain patterns. White oak is also known for its beauty when stained, and it has a similar level of durability to red oak. Its resistance to movement allows it to handle wide planks up to five inches, making it suitable for a range of flooring needs. Overall, white oak is a reliable and attractive choice for those seeking a durable and versatile flooring material.
Solid Prefinished Hardwood Flooring Grades

In fact, we typically sell the majority of our prefinished hardwood flooring (70%) in plus grade. Please note that these are special grades that are not recognized by the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA).

Solid Prefinished Hardwood Floor Sheens
Hardwood flooring sheen is a measure of the amount of shine or gloss on the surface of the floor. A high shine means that the floor has a lot of gloss, while a low shine means that the finish is more matte. Sheen levels are typically measured using specialized equipment at a 60-degree angle. We recommend choosing a matte or satin sheen for your hardwood flooring, as these finishes tend to hide scratches, dirt, and other small imperfections more effectively than high gloss finishes. In general, lower sheen levels are more practical and durable for everyday use, while higher sheen levels may be more suitable for special occasions or formal settings.
Solid Prefinished Hardwood Flooring FAQ’s
No, since the floor is 3/4″ thick the fasteners such as cleats or staples seat better and typically do not go through the flooring and let the floor move to create a noise.
We recommend gluing 4″ and higher for wood flooring. When we recommend gluing we recommend glue assist which uses adhesive sausage in a “S” pattern.
No, it is the same as unfinished hardwood. It is better than engineered hardwood as the wear layer is thicker and this naturally means the floor will last longer. However, if you are not a professional installing prefinished flooring, prefinished flooring is better than unfinished as unfinished requires very niche tools to make the jobs perfect and not sub-par.
Solid prefinished flooring is just that solid hardwood flooring that is prefinished at the factory. Virtually the only downside to this method is that the boards usually have a slight bevel on the edges so that there are no issues while installing the boards.
